Konferences mērķis ir plašā lokā diskutēt par Eiropas Savienības Bioloģiskās daudzveidības stratēģijas ieviešanu.

Latvijas prezidentūras uzdevums, organizējot šo konferenci, ir sniegt ieguldījumu Bioloģiskās daudzveidības stratēģijas vidustermiņa izvērtēšanas ziņojuma sagatavošanā.

Lai dalītos pieredzē un kopīgi veidotu ieteikumus turpmākajai rīcībai, konferenē piedalīties aicināti valstiskā un nevalstiskā sektora pārstāvji, kā arī zemes lietotāju un īpašnieku organizāciju pārstāvji no visām ES dalībvalstīm.

Konferenci organizē Vides aizsardzības un reģionālās attīstības ministrija sadarbībā ar Eiropas Komisiju, Latvijas Dabas fondu un Eiropas Vides biroju. Latvijas Dabas fonds un Eiropas Vides birojs īsteno projektu, kas nodrošina nevalstisko organizāciju aktīvu līdzdalību konferencē, saņemot atbalstu no Latvijas valsts budžeta finansētas programmas „Atbalsts sabiedrības līdzdalībai Latvijas prezidentūras Eiropas Savienības Padomē īstenošanā”.
