On Thursday 7 May, the Ornaments of the Latvian Soul exhibition devoted to Latvian national costumes and the Song and Dance Celebration tradition will be opened in Neumünster Abbey in Luxembourg.

The Ornaments of the Latvian Soul exhibition consists of 26 regional costumes from the Senā klēts (Old Granary) national costume centre, as well as objects from Latvian museum collections – photographic prints, ethnographic and archaeological objects, Latvian ornaments and descriptive texts. An audio-visual presentation gives visitors the opportunity to experience the togetherness of the Latvian singing and dancing tradition at different periods of time, to discover the nimble dance steps, and to explore the significance of Latvian motifs and ornaments in their historical context.

In March and April of this year the exhibition was on display in Munich. "The Ornaments of the Latvian Soul exhibition received a great response from the public and truly inspired those who came to see it. The exhibition was seen by nearly 1 700 visitors, which is a tremendous achievement," says the Director of Munich’s Five Continents Museum, Christine Kron.

The exhibition will be open until 7 June. It forms part of the Latvian Week that is taking place in Luxembourg from 3 to 9 May.

Two more exhibitions are on display in Neumünster Abbey (Centre culturel de rencontre Abbaye de Neumünster) – the What Else Does Amber Have in Mind? exhibition features amber thread tapestries by the Latvian artist Iveta Vecenāne and the Sun Stone exhibition offers and insight into a 40-million-year-old world through the photographs by Andris Zēgners.

The Latvian Week in Luxembourg will end with a concert by the Art&Valt duo on 8 May and with the Europe Day celebrations on 9 May. As a continuation of the week, the famous Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra will perform in concert on 11 May at the Philharmonie Luxembourg.
