"Daiļrade" dance ensemble to perform at the prestigious Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts

On 4 April, as part of the Latvian EU Council Presidency cultural programme, Daiļrade, one of Latvia's leading dance ensembles, will perform at the Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts.

Daiļrade will put on a special dance performance in China that includes works by masters of Latvian folk dance choreography along with new works created in recent years. The latter include the folk-ballet style performances which had their premiere at the Opening Ceremony of the World Choir Games in Riga last summer.

The dance performance will give the audience an opportunity to get to know Latvia and its various folk costumes representing different regions, and to enjoy its working and holiday traditions and the magic of the summer solstice. The performance will be accompanied by a specially prepared narrative about our country, its nature, the Song and Dance Celebration, and the people involved in the creation of the performance.

This week, the participants of the dance ensemble will also visit the Beijing Foreign Studies University and meet students who are learning Latvian language.

The Daiļrade dance ensemble from the Small Guild Hall Culture and Folk Art Centre in Riga will celebrate its 25th anniversary during the coming season. It is currently composed of more than 60 active dancers. Throughout its existence, the ensemble has always taken part in Latvian Song and Dance Celebrations and in various major national and international events, including the Opening Ceremony of the World Choir Games Riga 2014 and at this year’s International Green Week food industry exhibition in Berlin.

The concert is included in the cultural programme of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which aims to show that Latvia is a source of inspiration and outstanding cultural achievement, a cultural tourism destination, and a reliable cooperation partner.
