Within the framework of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Latvian Government and the European Commission jointly organize the conference “Insolvency law in Europe: current trends and future perspectives”. The Conference will take place on April 23-24, 2015 in Lavian resort town Jūrmala.

The Conference will bring together academics, European and national legislators, representatives of governments and stakeholders to share experiences regarding national insolvency legal frameworks and discuss future trends from a European perspective.

The Conference will focus on reforms intended to modernise European insolvency laws. An experience exchange will take place regarding the implementation of the Recommendation of 12 March 2014 on a new approach to business failure and insolvency. The Conference will also touch upon consumer over-indebtedness and consumer insolvency. The invited speakers will give an overview regarding other insolvency related aspects such as directors’ liability, avoidance actions, regulation of the insolvency practitioners and their importance in a EU context.

The main objective of the conference is to discuss possible approaches to overcome challenges insolvency law is facing due to the rapidly changing economic circumstances today in Europe.
