12 January 2015

On 13 January, an informal meeting of EU Directors General is taking place under the auspices of Latvia's Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The Latvian Foreign Ministry's Under Secretary of State for European Affairs, Inga Skujiņa, will present Latvia's priorities for its Presidency of the Council of the EU: promotion of competitiveness and growth; unfolding Europe's digital potential; and enhancing the EU's role on the global stage, including the new kinds of challenges faced in relation to the recent terror attacks in France.

Coordination of EU institutions is of special importance when entering a new legislative cycle. The EU Directors General will exchange opinions on the arrangements for cooperation between institutions and enhancement of the EU's legislative process within the annual and multi-annual framework.

The informal meeting of EU Directors General will bring together 80 officials from 28 EU Member States as well as EU aspirant countries such as Turkey, Albania, and the former Yugoslav Republics of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro. The General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union and the European Commission shall also be represented at the meeting.
