On January 21-22 in Riga, Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union will hold Informal Meeting on Climate Change.

The aim of this meeting is to provide an overview on the results of the Lima Climate Change Conference* from the perspective of the EU and a platform for discussion on a strategic way forward towards reaching a global agreement in December 2015, Paris.

The task for the Latvian Presidency in this meeting will be to prepare and lead strategic discussion that will become a basis for the preparation of the EU position papers and submissions for the international negotiations.

This meeting, similarly as other meetings organised by the Latvian Presidency with regard to these issues, will ensure the EU preparations for the meetings of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change that will take place in Geneva (Switzerland) in February 2015 and in Bonn (Germany) in June 2015.

The Informal meeting on Climate Change issues shall be attended by representatives of all the EU Member States, European Commission and General Secretariat of the Council.

*On 1-12 December, 2014 in Lima (Peru) the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change took place.
