The Minister for Foreign Affairs presents Latvia’s EU Presidency priorities to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the EP

On 19 January in Brussels, the Latvian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkēvičs, took part in the Foreign Affairs Committee meeting to present the priorities of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The main topic discussed was the EU's enlargement policy. In this regard, the Foreign Minister pointed out that the Presidency will spare no effort with respect to opening new chapters in the enlargement negotiations during the following six months.

Given the recent tragic events in Paris, the Minister also highlighted the external aspects of the fight against terrorism and addressing the phenomenon of foreign fighters. Speaking on behalf of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Minister Rinkēvičs informed the Foreign Affairs Committee about the conclusions of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
