From 19 to 23 January, Ministers from the Latvian Government are presenting the work programme of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union to the Committees of the European Parliament.

During the presentations the participants are discussing the main tasks which Latvia is determined to accomplish in cooperation with the European Parliament during the Presidency.

The Parliament is one of the EU’s main law-making institutions, along with the Council of the European Union. The presentations by the Presidency’s Ministers to the Committees serve as a medium for each side to exchange opinions on the work programme for the upcoming six months. It contributes to synchronised political activities by the Parliament and the Council and a more effective legislative procedure.

The presentations traditionally take place at the beginning of the Presidency at one of the first meetings of the Committees. Individual Committees can also invite the Presidency’s Ministers to take part in meetings at the end of the Presidency.

From 19 to 23 January Ministers from the Latvian Government will give presentations to 17 Parliament Committees. All the presentations will be livestreamed on the EP website.
