Informal Meeting of Environment and Energy MinistersInformal meetings of ministers
Under the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the EU, informal meetings of the EU Environment and Energy Ministers will be held in order to discuss the European Union's environmental policy and climate and energy policy objectives in an informal atmosphere.
Ministerial discussions on biodiversity issues are planned during the Environment Ministers meeting, and it is also intended to assess the implementation of the EU biodiversity strategy, providing an input into the mid-term evaluation of the strategy. There are plans too to discuss the common EU position on a comprehensive global agreement to combat climate change after 2020, which is expected to be approved at the end of 2015 in Paris during the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
At the joint session of the Ministers for Environment and Energy a ministerial discussion will take place on the interaction between the conservation of biological diversity and the promotion of renewable energy.
An informal meeting of Energy Ministers is scheduled to be held after the joint informal meeting of the Ministers for Environment and Energy at which it is planned to continue the discussion on regional cooperation aspects in the management of the EU 2030 climate and energy policy framework. The participants will discuss the promotion of energy efficiency measures in the heating and cooling sectors.
