The first Riga marathon took place in 1991. Last year, the total number of participants reached over 23 000 with 61 different countries represented. At the 25th Riga marathon, participants can choose between short (5km and 10 km) or long (21 km and 42 km) distances.

In 2015, a special symbolic kilometre devoted to the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the EU will be included in all four distances. The “Presidency kilometre” in the very heart of Riga will host a wide range of cultural and musical performances along the way, allowing everyone to enjoy Latvian culture and to get to know the presiding country from an interactive and entertaining perspective.

Registration for the Lattelecom Riga Marathon will be open until 16 May 2015.
