The aim of the Water and Marine Directors’ meeting is to ensure a harmonised EU inland and marine waters policy in all Member States.

During the meeting in Latvia, discussions will be held on issues relating to water resource management policies and protection measures, as well as the re-use of water resources.

Participants will discuss together harmonised implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive and the Water Framework Directive and set the directions of the implementation strategy for 2016 - 2019.

The meeting will be attended by representatives from EU Member States’ ministries responsible for water and marine conservation and management issues (heads of departments, not just officials), representatives from Norway and the European Commission, and European Environment Agency (EEA) and Joint Research Centre (JRC) staff.
