Digital market

The Council will exchange views on the new EU strategy for the digital single market.

In this context, it will discuss and approve a number of decisions related to:

  • a new form of single-member private limited liability company to make online registration easier and cheaper
  • the digital transformation of industry
  • a roadmap for the European research area for 2015-2020
  • open, data-intensive and networked research as a driver for innovation

Travel packages

Ministers will try to reach political agreement on the reform of 'package travel' rules. These packages typically include transport, hotel and some other services, such as car hire.

The current rules, which date back to 1990, offer protection to consumers booking ready-made holidays from a brochure.

The proposed reform would extend this protection to combinations of travel services chosen by consumers, which are mainly booked online nowadays.

Safer products in the EU

The Council will try to reach a position on the consumer product safety and market surveillance package.

Discussions will focus on the only outstanding issue, that of a mandatory indication of origin for non-food products sold in the EU.
