For two days, visitors of the Tianjin Television Audience Festival will have the opportunity to see how eight Latvian craftsmen create amber jewellery, woodcarvings, wickerwork, pottery and other handicrafts usually found at various art and craft fairs, souvenir stores and the traditional Applied Folk Art Fair organised annually by the Ethnographic Open-Air Museum of Latvia. At the festival, everyone will be welcome to try their hand at traditional Latvian handicrafts.

Television audience festivals are a new type of cultural event in China that originated only around ten years ago. The purpose of such festivals – to express gratitude to viewers – is closely related to one of the most ancient and important principles in Chinese society, reciprocity. Every year, the Tianjin Television Audience Festival attracts more than 400 000 visitors, while almost 30 million people watch the event on television.
