Similar to other meetings on defence issues during the Presidency, the priorities for this meeting include preparation of the upcoming European Council discussions in June 2015. The meeting will take place during the preparation of the European Council conclusions and will offer a great opportunity to gather the views and conclusions of the Member States before the process begins.

At the meeting, participants will discuss such topics as increasing the effeciveness and visibility of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), the development of military capabilities and facilitation of the competitiveness of the European defence industry. The EU Military Committee discussions usually focus on the development of military capabilities and EU military missions and operations. 

Participants arriving in Latvia will visit the National Armed Forces (NBS) naval fleet, the military base in Ādaži and the NBS Joint Headquarters.
