The Sinfonietta Riga Chamber Orchestra and the great Latvian violinist, Baiba Skride, whose performances around the world have been compared to the voice of nature, will come together for a concert at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. The programme includes sublime classical Viennese compositions and the music of Latvia’s most-recognised composer, Pēteris Vasks.
In 2001, the Riga-born violinist Baiba Skride won the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Music Competition in Brussels. Since then she has performed with the world’s most prestigious orchestras. Baiba also performs chamber music concerts with her pianist sister, Lauma Skride.
Youthful fervour and vitality, a thirst for knowledge and high levels of professionalism, excellence and enthusiasm are the ingredients that make up the formula of the Sinfonietta Riga Chamber Orchestra. The musicians are young and open to creative challenges. They are studying the traditions of Baroque musical performances and the nuances behind the interpretation of Classical music; they are brilliant performers of contemporary music and do not shy away from non-academic experiments and crossover projects.
Tickets are available on the Elbphilharmonie webpage.
Sinfonietta Riga and Baiba Skride will also perform on 14 March at the Hercules Hall of the Munich Residenz.
