ECOFIN is one of the key configurations of the Council of the EU. Formal meetings of the ECOFIN Council take place once in a month, and once every six months Ministers for Finance from all the EU Member States meet in the presiding country to have an informal discussion on topical issues in the field of economics and financial affairs. The informal meetings of ECOFIN usually serve as a platform for new initiatives and discussions on more complex issues and their preparation for the next formal meeting of ECOFIN.
