On 1-3 June the High-Level Seminar on Statistics for Eastern European, Caucasian and Central Asian Countries will take place at the Radisson Blu Daugava Hotel.

This year the seminar will be devoted to quality issues, including the results of the quality review of the European Statistical System. Representatives from the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) will focus on the role of the national statistical system, its legal and institutional framework, and requirements for authorities responsible for collecting official statistics. Special attention will be paid to the concept of "official statistics", with discussions on which data are to be considered as official statistics.

Representatives from Eastern European, Caucasian and Central Asian national statistical institutes will report on progress and best practices regarding the implementation of quality management processes in statistical offices in the region. The seminar programme will also cover topics related to further cooperation between Eurostat and Eastern European, Caucasian and Central Asian countries in order to improve the quality of the statistical system in line with best European practice.

The seminar will also be attended by the heads and other representatives of statistical authorities from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

The High-Level Seminar has been organised by Eurostat on an annual basis since 2010. This seminar is included as an associated event in the calendar of events of the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
