Laima Jansone Trio "Zarbugans" concert in Brussels
Last updated on 20 April 2015, 18.35
With:
Laima Jansone kokle
Artis Orubs percussions
Andris Grunte double bass
The trio first appeared on stage at the Rīgas Ritmi Festival in 2012, when the Latvian kokle folk instrument player, Laima Jansone, performed together with percussionist Artis Orubs and bassist Andris Grunte. The trio revealed a new melodic synthesis, one that was unique and unprecedented in jazz music. During Rīgas Ritmi 2013, the audience had the chance to witness the trio’s new concert programme, called Zarbugans. The trio has continued to impress with their unique synthesis of modern and traditional music, combined with an extraordinary stage layout and the visual presence of the musicians.
Zarbugans is not only the name of the programme and the subsequent album, but also a unique, specially-created instrument that has to be seen and heard for oneself. As with the mystical kokle and nuanced contrabass, the Zarbugans adds to the trio’s original and contrasting essence. The programme consists of original pieces that have been influenced by both jazz and folk.
