Works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Brett Dean, Johannes Brahms
The Latvian violinist, Baiba Skride, performs in the company of four highly talented musicians in a programme of string quintets that spans three centuries and three musical eras: Classicism in the case of Mozart, Romanticism with Brahms, and contemporary music by the Australian composer, Brett Dean (1961).
Baiba Skride’s natural approach to playing music has endeared her to some of today’s most important conductors and orchestras worldwide. Born into a musical family in Riga, she began her studies there before transferring in 1995 to the University of Music and Theatre in Rostock. In 2001 she won the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Music Competition in Brussels. Since then Baiba has performed with the world's most prestigious orchestras on a regular basis. Baiba also performs chamber music concerts with her pianist sister, Lauma Skride. Baiba plays the ‘Ex Baron Feilitzsch’ Stradivarius violin (1734), which has been generously loaned to her by Gidon Kremer.
