BL!NDMAN Saxophone Quartet and the Latvian Radio Choir
Last updated on 30 March 2015, 16.16
Conductor Sigvards Kļava
Works by Jonathan Harvey, Orlando Di Lasso, Erkki Sven Tüür, Jēkabs Nīmanis, Johann Sebastian Bach
The concert is an encounter between two of the most original interpreters of contemporary music - the BL!NDMAN saxophone quartet from Belgium and the Latvian Radio Choir. In both cases, their daily concert life is characterised by the search for novel combinations of sound expression and new creative friends. The concert programme is based on instrument and voice merging into one musical sound pattern, uniting the most characteristic trends from the Polyphonic Era and contemporary music.
The Latvian Radio Choir (LRC) ranks among the top professional chamber choirs in Europe, and its refined taste for musical material, its finesse of expression and vocals of an unbelievably immense compass have charted its course as a noted brand on the world stage. Since 1992, the LRC has had two conductors, Sigvards Kļava as the musical director and principal conductor, and Kaspars Putniņš.
The BL!NDMAN Saxophone Quartet hitches Baroque scores onto contemporary compositions that handle polyphony in a highly individual way, giving a kaleidoscopic dimension to the musical material.
