The Informal Meeting of the EU Ministers for Defence in Riga will discuss current issues and prepare for the European Council discussions on defence in June 2015 - the most important event in this area during the Latvian Presidency.

The ministers will discuss such topics as increasing the effectiveness and visibility of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), the development of military capabilities and facilitation of the competitiveness of the European defence industry. It is planned for ministers to also have an informal discussion on strategic challenges to European security and possible action in response to these. Attention will also focus on the hybrid threat.

In addition, working sessions are planned on the current development projects at the European Defence Agency (EDA) on military capabilities as well as on EU military missions and operations.
