Meeting of the Mutual Information System on Social Protection experts to be held in Riga

The meeting of the Mutual Information System on Social Protection (MISSOC) experts will take place on 5-6 May and is organised in cooperation with the European Commission under the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU).

The meeting of the experts is aimed at discussing the current activities in the field of social protection, analysing selected MISSOC sections and thematic sections. It is also planned to agree on improvement of filling out the MISSOC tables and other future activities for the next six months. MISSOC tables provide detailed, comparable and regularly updated information on national social protection systems in English, French and German.

Mr Ingus Alliks, the Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Welfare, will present the alterations in the social protection system recently implemented in Latvia. Ms Jana Muižniece, the Director of the Social Insurance Department of the Ministry of Welfare, will emphasise the issues of the gender gap in pension payments for men and women, and the reasons behind these differences.

The meeting will be attended by representatives from EU Member States, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, the Council of Europe, the International Social Security Association and the European Commission.

The meetings of MISSOC experts take place twice a year and are organised by the European Commission in cooperation with the Presidency. The meeting is co-financed by the European Commission.
