This meeting will discuss relevant issues related to the planning and conduct of the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) civilian missions. Special attention will be given to promoting the effectiveness, visibility and impact of CSDP civilian missions - one of the priorities of the Latvian Presidency in the area of CSDP.

The Committee for Civilian Aspects of Crisis Management (CIVCOM) is an advisory body for the Political and Security Committee (PSC). The Committee's main task is to provide information, draft recommendations and give advice to the PSC on civilian aspects of crisis management under the CSDP. It mainly focuses on issues related to the CSDP civilian missions deployed to different crisis regions (such as Georgia, Libya, Mali, Somalia, Ukraine) where the EU provides assistance to state and local institutions in the area of police, rule of law, border security, etc.

CIVCOM is permanently chaired by the European External Action Service. Sessions are held in Brussels, but every six months an informal meeting takes place in the country holding the presidency of the Council of the EU.
